Broccoli, Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts, Kohlrabi

The Brassica genus (including broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, kohlrabi, and others) is a diverse family of plants and vegetables which thrives in cooler weather. In May they are some of our first plants in the ground. We do a second fall crop of broccoli as well for fall harvest. Kohlrabi is a bit lesser known but has become increasingly popular at the market. Brussels sprouts might be our favorite vegetable. The plant is so hardy that many a November finds us brushing snow off the plants to keep picking. The frost makes the nutty taste even nuttier!
